Ketamine FAQs for PTSD & Pain

Our clinic specializes in innovative wellness treatments, including low-dose ketamine infusions tailored to help manage chronic pain and mental health conditions such as PTSD.

Ketamine infusion therapy involves administering low doses of ketamine intravenously in a controlled medical setting. Originally an anesthetic, ketamine at sub-anesthetic doses has shown promise in treating conditions like chronic pain and PTSD by modulating brain chemistry and neural pathways. At Freedom Integrated Wellness, our board-certified physicians, dual-trained in chronic pain and anesthesiology, oversee all treatments to ensure safety and efficacy.

For PTSD, ketamine can provide rapid relief from symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, and hypervigilance by influencing glutamate receptors in the brain, promoting neuroplasticity, and helping to "reset" overactive fear responses. While not a cure, it often complements therapy and can offer quicker results than traditional antidepressants. Our treatments are personalized to address mental health goals, though specific protocols may vary based on individual assessments.

Ketamine works for chronic pain by resetting the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and interrupting persistent pain signals. It's particularly effective for conditions like neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), fibromyalgia, and centrally mediated pain. Patients often experience fast-acting relief without the need for daily medications, restoring comfort and improving quality of life.

Yes, when administered in a supervised clinical environment like ours, ketamine infusion therapy is safe and well-tolerated. We use low doses to minimize risks, and our physicians monitor patients throughout the process. Ketamine has been used medically for decades and is FDA-approved as an anesthetic, with off-label use for pain and mental health supported by growing research.

Side effects are typically minimal and short-lived. Common ones may include mild dissociation, dizziness, nausea, or elevated blood pressure during the infusion. These usually resolve quickly post-treatment. Serious side effects are rare in a controlled setting. We'll discuss any concerns during your consultation and monitor you closely.

Eligibility is determined during an initial consultation. It's suitable for adults with treatment-resistant PTSD or chronic pain who haven't responded well to other therapies. We tailor treatments to your unique health goals, but it's not recommended for those with certain conditions like uncontrolled hypertension, active substance abuse, or psychosis. A medical history review is required.

• Initial Consultation: A $100 assessment (credited toward your first infusion if you proceed).

• Infusion Sessions: Each lasts 1-2 hours, including preparation and recovery. We recommend a series of 4-6 infusions over 2-3 weeks for optimal results, followed by maintenance as needed (every 4-12 weeks).

• Environment: Treatments occur in our comfortable Scottsdale clinic, with flexible scheduling and supportive care from start to finish.

• Avoid eating solid foods for 4 hours and clear liquids for 2 hours before your session.

• Arrange for transportation home, as you may feel drowsy afterward.

• Inform us of all medications and health conditions.

• Wear comfortable clothing and bring any personal items for relaxation (e.g., headphones).

You'll relax in a private room while ketamine is administered via IV. Many patients describe a dream-like or dissociative state, which is part of the therapeutic effect. Our staff will monitor your vital signs and ensure your comfort. The active infusion typically lasts 40-60 minutes, followed by recovery time.

Post-infusion, you'll rest in our clinic until effects subside (usually 30-60 minutes). Avoid driving or operating machinery for 24 hours. Hydrate well, rest, and follow any personalized instructions. We provide follow-up care to track progress and adjust as needed. Many patients notice improvements within hours to days.

• Initial Consultation: $100 (applied to your first infusion)

• Individual Infusion: $500 per session.

• Bundle of 6 Infusions: $2,500 (includes the 6th free).

Financing options are available. We do not accept insurance for ketamine infusions, but we can provide superbills for potential reimbursement.
